I’m sure you’re like me. We get into a rhythm, a routine. We’re working out several times a week, eating healthy snacks instead of sugar at 3pm everyday, and reading daily. But then life happens. Your child gets sick and the workout goes out the window. You’re stressed at work and the only comfort is a chocolate chip cookie. You are exhausted after taking care of said sick child and hit the hay by binging some ridiculous show instead of finishing that library book.

We all get on and off the self-improvement wagon. And most of the time, unless you’re a perfectionist, we live in constant grey area.

For whatever reason, however, we are quick to discount this grey area. If we miss a workout, perhaps we let the slide backfire into a ‘well, I can’t keep up with this anyway,” mindset. It’s this notion of black or white. If I’m not hitting my goals entirely, then I’m not accomplishing anything.

This idea of all or nothing is a complete farce. Life is not about winning. No one is requiring you to achieve everything perfectly every single day. It is about progress. It is about incremental steps toward your individual needs, desires, goals, wants, you name it.

This is especially true when it comes to self-improvement. As the name implies, you’re the only one that can improve you. And making consistent time for you is likely challenging. Therefore, any little steps in a positive direction count. The grey area allows you to fall out of habit and get back into it. It allows you to process the current life situation and do better next week. It gives you the grace of being an adult and still trying your best.

So please do not beat yourself up if you missed a few workouts or ate a ton of junk food or haven’t read a book in 6 months. One thing great about a new day is it is a new opportunity to try again.

I can help you feel good about the grey area – reach out!
