Doomscrolling, something we’re probably doing now more so than ever. And outside of actually throwing your phone in the trash, it’s very hard to stop yourself sometimes from running your finger up the screen and reading all of the different headlines and posts – things that just spiral you into a negative and fearful circle.
But here are a couple of tips to try and limit the amount of doomscrolling you do on a regular basis:
- Limit the amount of time you’re scrolling social media or other apps. Set a timer. Use one of the apps that kicks you off the internet after so long. Even deleting the apps completely from your phone forcing you to do so on a computer can help.
- Physically move your phone away from you. Maybe you leave it in a different room entirely. I know in the morning I’ve been trying to leave my phone on the charger while I go downstairs and enjoy my coffee, seated at the table, silent away from notifications.
- Start to follow more positive accounts. Maybe try to delete some of the negative people or pages you follow. You can also go directly to a news source instead of scrolling social media.
- Find yourself a positive distraction. Any hobby, skill, or activity you can do that does not include the use of your phone can help mitigate the doomscrolling disease we are now accustomed to.
Good luck my friends, I know it’s challenging – but we’re in this together.
