Whether it comes to trying a new workout, starting a new hobby, making a difficult call, or finding a new job, we all have a tendency to delay and procrastinate until the ‘right time’.

I sat with this idea today, struggled actually. When would be the ‘right’ time to do something? For example, I want to practice sewing. Yes, small peanuts, I know, but I do have a machine, got it greased, bought all the necessary items to start a project, and had 2 lessons with a professional – this all occurred over 3 months ago now.

Would the ‘right’ time be when I’m bored? when I’m sick and can’t do much else? when I’m complete devoid of all other responsibilities? Far-fetched ideas.

It has taken me nearly 40 years to realize, there is no ‘right’ time. Instead, if it’s important, it can be started now and started small.

Which brings me to my second point. Is it important enough to warrant your time?

Because we have so many things to juggle at any given moment, adults have a hard time prioritizing need to dos and want to dos. Begin this strategy by figuring out what is most important to you. Create a list even (I love lists) and see what is at the top. Then, and only then, start now and start small.

In the case of finding a new job, maybe you encourage yourself to send out 1 resume everyday for the 5 days? Or if you’re trying to start a new workout, maybe you can schedule 30 minutes over the next week?

Waiting around to do something that may be crucial to your happiness is hurting you. Small, incremental steps toward your goals can make any time be the ‘right’ time.

I am here to help with your goals. Check out my Accountability Buddy services today and let’s start small together!
